Our hiking tip in the Stubai Valley:

There are hikes that simply stay in your head for longer – not because they are advertised as being particularly spectacular, but because they always surprise you along the way. The Wild Water Trail in the Stubai Valley is just such a tour. The landscape changes step by step, the sound of the water accompanies you almost continuously and at some point you realize how quiet it has become around you.

A recommendation from a professional:

As an active hotel for adults in Neustift, we spend a lot of time in the mountains ourselves throughout the summer. This is exactly why we are so happy to recommend this trail. It is one of the most varied hikes in the Stubai Valley – and you can feel it from the very first moment. Down in the valley, you walk along the Ruetz through green meadows, later you stand in front of thundering waterfalls, and further up, the view opens up to the Stubai Glacier and an almost unreal turquoise-colored mountain lake.

What we particularly appreciate:

You don’t have to walk the entire route to experience something. Each of the three stages has its own charm – and its very own highlight. For many, the Grawa waterfall alone is a reason to do this tour. With its width and the power of the water, you automatically stop here, a little longer than planned.

If you wish, you can continue the trail all the way up to the Sulzenau glacier. In total, this adds up to around 1,250 meters in altitude and around 22 kilometers – a tour that demands stamina, but at the same time gives you an incredible amount in return.

A hike as varied as it is impressive

The Wild Water Trail takes you higher and higher up towards the glacier. The tour is particularly beautiful in the summer months between June and September. What many guests appreciate: You can decide spontaneously how far you want to go. Each stage has its own character – and every time there is a moment at the end that is worthwhile.

1. start & end point:

The starting point is the Wilde Wasser Arena in Ranalt, around 15 minutes by car from our hiking hotel in Neustift. There you will find a well-signposted parking lot directly on the road.

2. first stage of the Wild Waters Trail:

The first stage starts quietly. You follow the Ruetz through the impressive cataract, hear the rushing water and slowly get into your rhythm. The landscape gradually opens up until you finally reach the Tschangelair Alm. And then it suddenly appears in front of you: the Grawa waterfall. With its 85 meters and its enormous width, it is one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the Stubai Valley.

3. second Stage of the Wild Waters Trail:

The second stage is a little more challenging. The path leads uphill in serpentines and the ground is damp in places, so good footwear is important. After about an hour, you reach the Sulzenegg. From there, the path becomes quieter again, almost gentle. You walk through a wide basin in the direction of the Sulzenau-Alm and always have the glacier in view.

If you continue a little further, you will reach the foot of the Sulzenau waterfall – for many the most powerful moment of the tour. From here, the trail continues up to the Sulzenauhütte, where a short break is definitely worthwhile.

4th Third Stage of the Wild Waters Trail:

The third stage finally brings you very close to the glacier. From the hut, you hike on to the Sulzenau glacier. At the top, you stand in front of the glacier lake and the glacier gate – a sight that seems almost unreal. All around you can see the jagged ice formations, small watercourses and, in the background, the snowy peak of the Zuckerhütl, the highest mountain in the Stubai Alps.
