The most important things at a glance:

  • As a specialized activity hotel for adults with a focus on hiking in summer, we have put together the hike to the Maria Waldrast monastery via the Waldraster Jöchl for you.
  • Our Tirolerhof in Neustift combines the advantages of a hiking hotel (free rental of hiking poles, in-house room for your hiking equipment and free mountain lifts) with an adults-only wellness area and outdoor pool in the hotel garden.
  • As a hiking hotel in the Stubai Valley, you benefit above all from personal service and honest hiking tips – directly from your hosts, who are often out and about in the mountains themselves.
  • It is precisely this mixture of experience, location and atmosphere that makes the difference: you start your hiking tour well prepared and can reach all the hiking regions of the Stubaital quickly and easily with the free hiking bus.

Our hiking tip in the Stubai Valley

As an active hotel for adults in the heart of the Stubaital in Tyrol, we specialize in hiking and can recommend the most beautiful hiking tours in the valley. One of our favorite hikes is the one to the summit cross of the Waldraster Jöchl and the idyllically situated Maria Waldrast monastery. A charming way to explore the hiking area of the majestic Serles on your own. Sign the summit register and take in the impressive mountain scenery.

So lace up your mountain boots and drive from our activity hotel in Neustift to the valley station of the Serles lifts in about 15 minutes by car. You can reach it either with the free hiking bus or your car. Because: the mountain is calling!

Our hiking tip

A particularly charming and varied hiking tour:

1st “Up to the Serles” with the Serlesbahnen cable car:

Our Aktivhotel Tirolerhof combines the strengths of a specialized hiking hotel with the advantages of the Stubai Super Card. You will receive it directly at our reception upon arrival. Your advantage: you can use one of the mountain railroads free of charge every day (one free ascent and descent in one of the 4 skiing and hiking areas in the Stubai Valley). So you can start your hike to Maria Waldrast with a free gondola ride to the mountain station and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains (all the way to Innsbruck).

2nd hike to Maria Waldrast via the Waldraster Jöchl

  • Medium-difficulty route
  • Walking time from 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Height difference: 300 m

A wide forest path leads from the mountain station of the Serlesbahnen (past the Koppeneck panorama restaurant) in the direction of the Ochsenhütte. Shortly before the Ochsenhütte, a well-signposted trail branches off to the right to the Waldraster Jöchl. It leads you along winding forest paths to a gentle alpine meadow and from there to the Waldraster Jöchl at 1878 m above sea level. This pretty hiking trail is particularly famous for the many toadstools you can admire along the way. But beware! These are highly poisonous, but incredibly pretty to look at … and of course a perfect photo spot for the most beautiful vacation pictures from the Stubaital.
Once you have reached the summit cross of the Jöchl, you can sign the summit book and start your descent to the Maria Waldrast monastery via the southwest ridge. It leads you past the small chapel back to the circular trail.

3rd stop at the monastery inn & return:

After approx. 1.5 to 2 hours, you will reach the Maria Waldrast monastery, where there is a small church, a chapel and a mountain restaurant. After a “hearty snack”, take the leisurely way back via the forest path, which takes you back to the cable car in 1 hour (around 150 meters in altitude).
Our tip: Just before the mountain station is the beautifully situated reservoir with a fantastic view of the Stubai Valley and the Stubai Glacier. Our second photo spot recommendation!

4. hurtle down into the valley on the summer toboggan run:

Back at the mountain station, you can either take the gondola down to the valley or enjoy a fun toboggan ride on the summer toboggan run. With the Stubai Super Card you get a free ride … so don’t miss out on this adventure!
Attention! The summer toboggan run is closed when wet for safety reasons!

Another little tip:

As this hike is also very popular with locals, we recommend not planning this tour at the weekend. During the week, you can enjoy the peace and quiet and let nature work its magic on you undisturbed.
