Snowshoeing
Sporty and active up the mountains

Sometimes it’s the quiet moments that make winter unforgettable. When snowshoeing, you immerse yourself step by step in the snow-covered mountain world of the Stubaital. All you hear is the crunching of the snow under your feet, feel the clear mountain air and discover places that are otherwise almost inaccessible in winter. This is exactly where the special attraction lies: slowing down, switching off and consciously perceiving nature.

Three particularly beautiful snowshoe tours in the Stubai Valley:

  • Snowshoe hike Neustift – Forchach – Inneres Mahd
This tour starts directly in Neustift above Forchach. Over a distance of around four kilometers, you hike for around two and a half hours through quiet sections of forest and open snowy areas. The 263 meters of altitude make the tour moderately difficult and very varied.
  • Snowshoe hike Froneben – Schlickeralm
Start at the Schlick 2000 valley station. The tour is around 5.7 kilometers long and takes around three hours through a fantastic winter landscape up to the Schlickeralm. With an ascent of around 288 meters, it is also moderately difficult and ideal if you want to take your first longer snowshoe hike.
  • Snowshoe hike Waldraster Jöchl
Start at the Koppeneck mountain station at the Serlesbahnen. The two-hour tour of around four kilometers leads through a high-altitude winter landscape with particularly beautiful views. With an ascent of around 300 meters, it is a little more challenging, but easily doable.

Safety is always important: find out about the current snow situation before every tour and choose a route that suits your level of fitness and experience.

Winter hiking
the quiet side of the Stubaital

You can explore the valley in a relaxed manner on around 80 kilometers of cleared and well-marked winter hiking trails – without haste, without lifts and without the hustle and bustle. The snow crunches under your boots, the trees are covered in glistening snow and the clear winter air lets you breathe deeply. Winter hiking is a particularly peaceful and intense way to experience the Stubai Valley. It’s often these simple moments that stay with you the longest on vacation.

The best thing for all Tirolerhof guests:
You can start two particularly beautiful winter hikes practically directly from the hotel – without a car:

  • Neustift – Schaller winter hiking trail
You hike along the Ruetz riverside path into the valley via Milders to Schaller and back again. The approximately 5.9-kilometre tour is easy to walk, takes around one and a half hours and is perfect for a leisurely winter day or as exercise after breakfast.
  • Neustift – Gröbenhof winter hiking trail
This varied loop leads along both sides of the valley and offers beautiful views of the snow-covered valley time and again. At around 9.2 kilometers and a walking time of around three hours, it is slightly longer, but is easy to master with only around 49 meters in altitude.

As the snow often melts in spring and the hiking trails can become icy, we recommend that you wear snow chains for your hiking boots.

Cross-country skiing
Exercise to the rhythm of nature

If you want to experience winter in a sporty yet peaceful way, cross-country skiing in the Stubai Valley is just the thing for you. The steady movements, the clear mountain air and the snow-covered landscape will quickly get you into your own rhythm – active, easy on the joints and relaxing at the same time.

Advantages for cross-country skiers in our active hotel:

  • You can conveniently hire your equipment directly at the hotel. In our in-house sports rental shop, you can get everything you need for your cross-country skiing tour for a fee.
  • If there is enough snow, you can access the “Neustift – Doadleralm” valley trail directly behind our house. So you can glide off without any detours.

A total of over 40 kilometers of trails at various altitudes await you in the Stubai Valley – both for classic cross-country skiing and skating. The high-altitude trails are particularly beautiful, for example on the Stubai Glacier at around 2,600 meters above sea level. There you can often do your laps early in the season and enjoy the impressive high mountain landscape.

Tobogganing
Winter fun at speed

Tobogganing in the Stubai Valley combines an experience of nature with a good dose of fun and speed. The wind in your face, the laughter on the way and perhaps a cozy stop in between – that’s exactly what makes a toboggan run so special.

Advantages for cross-country skiers in our active hotel:

  • You can get your rental toboggan directly from us free of charge.
  • The sports toboggan run and night toboggan run on the Elfer is only around 100 meters from the hotel. Just a few steps and your tobogganing fun begins.

The Stubai Valley is considered the largest tobogganing arena in Tyrol. A total of ten toboggan runs with a total length of over 40 kilometers await you here. One of the most famous runs is the Elfer toboggan run, which is around six kilometers long and leads directly to the village center of Neustift. It is particularly atmospheric in the evening when several runs are floodlit and you whizz down into the valley under a starry sky.

Conclusion:

A winter vacation in the Stubai Valley can be so much more than just skiing. Surrounded by snow-covered forests, quiet paths and sunny high altitudes, there are numerous opportunities to experience winter in an active yet relaxed way. At the Tirolerhof, our hotel in Neustift in the Stubai Valley, you can combine exercise in the great outdoors (right on the doorstep) with personal service and a soothing wellness experience in the evening. The result is an active winter vacation that is varied, relaxing and will leave a lasting impression.
